Top Cottage Project - February 2012

This month I learnt how to plaster!

The old back wall was in very poor condition, so I clad it with taper edged plasterboard faced ‘Thermalcheck’ fixing it with plasterboard adhesive using the dot and dab method. Then I just skimmed the joints with Wicks one coat plaster. A plasterboard sealer will be applied before decorating.

The ten 12-volt low energy LED lights can be seen recessed into the wall. These will be concealed behind the delft rack and will shine upwards to illuminate the white ceiling between the beams. Thus giving soft indirect lighting into the room. I thought this was a pretty cool idea (I hope it works!)

The end wall is now ready for plastering. Angle Bead has been fitted around the window and the wall has been treated with Wicks Plaster Bonding Agent.

The latter seems to be pretty good stuff: It is pink in colour and appears to be a mixture of PVA and fine sand. It is very easy to apply and when dry the wall is like sandpaper

And now it's finished.
